Oluwagbemi Oladimeji: Wall and Floor Tiling student is now working towards a Diploma in Interior Design

Ambitious Oluwagbemi took the Wall and Floor Tiling course at Lewisham Southwark College. He is now working towards his dream of becoming a household name in Interior Designing, specialising in kitchen and bathroom design.

He spoke to our Alumni Team recently about how college helped start him off on his journey.

“My goal is to become a Kitchen and Bathroom Designer, so studying Wall and Floor Tiling at college was the logical step for me,” said Oluwagbemi. “Lewisham and Southwark College was the place I cut my teeth as far as tiling is concerned. I learnt how to use different tiling tools and how to tiling walls and floors independently. At the same time college helped to build my courage and boost my confidence.

The Wall and Flooring Diploma is designed for those hoping to work in the construction or decoration industries. It gives the skills and knowledge necessary to perform tasks such as preparing backgrounds for tiling, setting out and tiling floor surfaces and forming sand and cement screeds.

“Now I have gained my Diploma in Wall and Floor Tiling, I am working towards acquiring a Diploma in Interior Design and currently working as a Tiler as well.”

Oluwagbemi was offered a job as a Tiler for Optima Site Solutions as a result of his qualification from Lewisham Southwark College, and is able to do this alongside his studies.

“One of the proudest moments of my career so far was being able to register with a tiling company. Now all things are good for me career-wise, and I see myself on track to reaching the pinnacle of greatness.”

Oluwagbemi also had some words of wisdom to share with others hoping to work in his industry:

“Passion, discipline and dedication are the watchwords of being successful not only in the industry but also in being a better human,” he said.

We wish you every bit of luck in your interior design ambitions, Oluwagbemi!
